As Spurs look to Glasner rather than Silva (don't blame them) our club need to look why our performances at home have been so poor and why Silva is unable to get past the finishing line at an elite level (Caraboa semi, cup qtr final). Perhaps it is time for Silva to move on, has he taken the club as far as he can go?

This seasons ffc and manager are the best i can recall. I believe that Just 3 or 4 inteligente adjustments we could continúe improving next season. Silva believes in attractive attacking football which is great if you pop in a few more goals.unfortunately i think its been one of those years where luck has avoided us more than usual, specially in pinball situaciones where he ball keep ending up in the rong side.

Totally agree, all our previous managers have had groaning trophy cabinets so why can’t ‘Long John’ do the same? The man’s a complete failure on a par with Keith Starmer and his politburo of communist deviants.

Did I miss something, or did Newcastle win the European club Cup or something on a par, as the media are really OTT about the Geordies winning the Carabao cup, with wild crowds and full TV coverage of their win in the lowest cup competition all of them. No doubt they did well to win a trophy, something that we never seem to do, but to see such huge crowds turning out to watch their bus parade through Newcastle itself, is a bit ridiculous.
Replies
Do you not think we would celebrate if we won anything. Fulham would never be the same again if that happened. Since 1879 all we have ever done is lose important things. I love Fulham but it would be nice to be proud of their achievements as well instead of being constantly depressed by their failures.

John, you stated you walked passed a house celebrating someone’s 56th. Birthday, why did you call them idiots? They could have been celebrating a family member who has been diagnosed with terminal cancer and had by the grace of God lived long enough to reach their 56th birthday, so John don’t call them idiots without having no knowledge of the circumstances. Hopefully you are in good health.

I would love to be celebrating Fulham winning something, just anything, but it's never happened in my Fulham lifetime, which goes back to 1947, so it's a long wait. Like this weekend, we always always seem to fall at the last hurdle, and it really hurts. Yes, we have reached two finals over the years, but came away as losers. We do have Championship winners medals and cups, which is good, but we need to win one major trophy. I must agree though, that Newcastle's celebrations were a bit too much.

Sad how we capitulated so easily yesterday but the season isn't over, it's not all doom and gloom. I will however point out my observation and it's Iwobi, when he plays well the team plays well and unfortunately yesterday he wasn't himself. I wonder if Marco shifting him in the system to accommodate others is wise? Personally I think it might be better to play him where he's most affective and build around him. I'd also like to see Sessenong play in front of Robinson, remembering his best performances were when in front of Matt Target. Still a possibility of our highest ever finish in the Prem, so let's hope for a bounce back performance on Tuesday at Arsenal. Keep the faith guys and stop being so gloomy, we're doing as well as we've ever done. COYW
Replies
Spot on with Iwobi. Playing him right wing is a waste. Should have been at No.10 with Traore on the right. Willian shouldn't have started either, he's an impact player these days Sess would have been better. Still a case of what might have been if every chance we had hadn't fallen to the wrong foot. Muniz, Pereira and even Robinson all had shots but with their weaker feet.

Ratings are from 'The Standard folks' and i take no pleasure or gloat about the ratings of Pereira which was the lowest rating of 3.' A shocker from the Brazilian. Missed a good chance, misplaced passes, and called Eze a diver when he had been fouled by Castagne. Not a good performance... That quote from the Standard. We cannot always rely on our wing play to win games and especially down the left wing. We need a marshal in the middle who can lay off passes all over and keep the ball release and tidy up when needed. Pereira is not our man...

I reckon 3 is pretty generous. Over the season maybe a 1 (one) . Marco Silva has a lot to answer for.

Funny how quickly opinions turn around.Oliver Glasner is now the favourite to take over the Spurs job when they decide to sack Ange Poste. Some smart so and so has worked out that Marco was outsmarted tactically by Glasner so we may well keep Marco for a while longer. Marco will need some smart money to strengthen our squad.

Just remind us all Bish whilst you are still in your usual “slag FFC” post mode, how are Spurs doing this season???? I’ll save you looking it up, they are 14th - 9 (YES NINE) points behind the Fulham you slag off after every game. Can’t see them in either of the domestic cups. Oh yeah, they were knocked out of the FA Cup by Villa and lost 4-0 to Liverpool in the Mickey Mouse cup that Newcastle are celebrating like they won the Champions League!! We also took four points off them this season so why would Marco jump from a club on the up with ambition to join one that sacks every manager they have and has a fan base that is never satisfied. Bish, every post you make (no matter the subject) is always negative - you must be a barrel of laughs down the pub. Jeez man, cheer up or maybe take up supporting Spurs - you’d fit in with their fans just fine ;0).

Bish, like MST,I do wonder about you sometimes, and how quick that your are to criticise all and sundry, after we lose a match, yes, we have some very difficult games coming up, and it is obviously possible, that we might lose a few of these, but isn't this one of the big reasons why we have as a club fought so hard to gain promotion to the Premier League, so that we can pit our wits against the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool, it's just a bit of a shame, that those two fixtures have come so quickly after a poor FA Cup defeat, but these games will really show how quickly we can fight back. Bish, you would probably be happier if we were playing QPR, and Blackburn in our next two fixtures. Just think about it, we are a decent, but not spectacular Premier League team now, who are doing us proud at present, so make the most of it, as there are plenty of clubs that would happily change places with us. Watching the last few games, we have played good possession football but we take to many passes in the opposite half giving the opposite defence to much time to get organised and make it harder to break down. Most attacks come down the left wing leading to crosses which we very rarely make anything off. We are getting to predictable. Marco is doing a brilliant job with the players he has but needs more younger quality players. I am sure he knows this I only hope the owner does.

I agree, I also think we are relying to much of using the left wing and not using the right wing more often enough and creating more width and stretching the defenders positioning. It is only my opinion I sometimes think Muniz although I like needs to have sharper with an eye for goal if you understand my meaning

You guys might agree or disagree with my post today for various reasons but i will give my tuppence worth. Pereira is a poor-mans midfield operator and today we can see why we lost this game. We lost this game after a 20 minute spell of decent possession and pressure and we got what we deserved which is nothing from this game. Congratulations for all the effort and white flags and what a fantastic turn-out at the Cottage to go out like that in a whimper. Pereira is not good enough to do that role in midfield and he certainly had enough of the ball to make something happen. Just watch the first 20 minutes and Pereira and you will know what i mean. We have plenty enough winger type of players to make a noise but in the middle Berge and Lukic might as well be playing on a bar-football table, we are too static and rigid and not enough vision and invention. Muniz caused them problems with his strength but that first chance early in the game tells us that our afternoon was going to fizzle out because we don't create and finish off what we started. No homework on Eze? How many times do we have to play against this guy to know that to never give him room to adjust on his right foot to crack one in like that? Andersen should know Eze's game, for starters. Marco Silva did not give Eze enough respect; all he needed was one chance, and he got it and rightly mom for the assist. When in doubt, go look at the record books and the record tells us that Ryan Sessegnon has form for making things happen, and maybe we should give him a start now for Fulham. I am going to ignore the posh snobs and suggest a player we have a possibility of getting, and he is age 32 and his name is 'Paul Pogba'!!! Pogba is coming back from his ban and i don't care about what phensic or how many paracetamols Pogba is having with his cornflakes. Does he know what to do with a football? Yes!!! Pogba or Pereira? All i care about is Fulham and we need somebody in the middle that can control a game of football without breaking a sweat. The job is too hard for Pereira who doesn't have a clue when to lay a pass off or can accurately lay off a decent pass. I have not watched the game back on television but i can honestly say that Pereira from the get go did everything wrong that you can do with a football, get shot of him!!!!!!!

Generally a very good post Owen, agree with most of your thinking. Perreira is awful, slow in possession, awful set plays and lazy. We would have been better to start with Cairney. If SR was better Perreira wouldn’t get a look in.

Not experienced enough in that role Pereira plays. Yes' it would be nice to find a young midfield operator who knows what he is doing but if out there we will not get him and thats why i suggest Pogba for a few seasons. We have loads of good wingers but you don't win top games with wingers. Unfortunately, Smith Rowe is inexperienced and we need somebody with experience...

Pogba I don’t think so,£300k a week for an individual that doesn’t give a toss would rather watch pereira although he’s shockingly bad. 70% possession 12 corners 16 shots statistics mean nothing(except for that one with goals in it).

I can't recall who made a run to their near post but Pereira put one over and he overdid it as usual which simply is not good enough. We obviously planned some of todays long balls into the box. Our problem is accuracy from distribution in midfield which is not good enough. Pereira' on the ball in the middle is hesitant and his lay-offs are not good enough. We had enough in possession the first half hour but not able to capitalise. They have one chance and they take it because we are not aware or switched on to the danger guys and the main guy is Eze. Before Eze it was Wilfred Zaha when Hodgson was in charge. We are a better team these days but the purchase of Pereira for 8 million is a waste, he is not good enough in that responsible and important role of ball distribution. Give him the ball in midfield and looking around he is a lost soul. Paul Pogba knows what he is doing in that role and he doesn't break a sweat doing it. WE can afford the likes of Eze his glory moment if only we take our chances and we have to admit we get those chances in every game but we often don't capitalise. Mid teams like Fulham don't get top midfielders period so we can do the next best thing and that is to get everybody's cast- offs and unfortunately it is the likes of Pogba who would like to find a way back into football again. We tend to do well with ex bad boy players...

Owen I get where your coming from,Pereira is a waste of space surprised Marco doesn’t play Cairney but the reason we lost yesterday was blatantly because we barely had a decent shot Eze destroyed us in 2 minutes of brilliance although basic defensive errors didn’t help when do we ever score from a high cross or set piece? Eze is well out of our price range he should be competing for trophies
posted by Chief (Guest) - Sunday 30th March 2025, 7:38 AM

Pereira is now not taking poor corners and free kicks, so what is he on the pitch for. Smith-Rowe tries more often to make progressive passes. Our two defensive midfielder are very good at that job but are wasted as attacking midfielders as they do not have progressive passing ability. Willian kept laying off balls for Berger, then making a run but never getting the ball back. People not qualified to attack were trying to attack without success, not surprisingly. Our centre back we making more attacking runs than I have ever seen. We fell right into Palaces trap and over-attacked so they could breakaway into empty space enough times to win, which they did comfortably. Marco put out a defensive team that kept attacking wildly, very odd. Has Silver got to the stage in his management career where the players are ignoring what he says and doing what they like.

We attacked most of the game but could not score. Their wingers were faster than our attacking full backs so on the few times Palace attacked they had four attackers to our two defenders. Our two defensive midfielders spent most of their time attacking. Palace have won their last five matches because they have have a strong defence and a fast and effective attack. The Fulham players should have seem what was happening and reacted to it. We were over attacking and made it easy for them. If we had played a more boring defensive game we might have won.

Having dominated them play we are 2 goals down and I am left wondering why. Muniz was very unlucky when he beat three Palace defenders in the penalty area only to see his shot go slightly wide. How Wharton is still on the field is a mystery. I have counted at least 4 offences worthy of a yellow card and having been given a yellow card after a series of foul he chops down Muniz and the referee bottles it when he should have shown a red card. Palace then score two quick goals against the run of play which has probably killed our chances of going to Wembley. My heart is shattered and I imagine Marco will be furious.

Relative to the possession we have, we are pretty ineffective in the final third I would say. How many positive shots did we have and many saves was Henderson forced to make? Palace with probably no more shots on goal score 3. Tells it all. Regret we were outplayed today by a better team. I think also they have more individual quality and the better team, on the day, won. Pity but we move on. No shame to lose just disappointing.

What a very disappointing result, despite being the far better team, and outplaying this awful Palace team, we just couldn't make our class tell. We had so many chances to score, but failed on each occasion, Palace on the other hand had 4 shots, and 3 of them scored. Hence the difference. I do hope my local team Brighton will go on to win the final now. I was hoping for a Fulham v Brighton final, but that's football for you.

Iffy, I don't know whether you were at the match, but I was, and after the first 20 minutes or so, not only me, but those around me, were what we thought we were watching was a comfortable win, then out of the blue, Palace scored with an in off of the post goal. As I am quite close the pitch I could see Andersens face drop, and the wind was taken out of our sails. I'm quite angry about this defeat, as it should never have happened, as we should have put paid to this dreadful Palace side, and to think of this outfit playing at Wembley is so frustrating, and to watch this side in a Wembley final is unbearable thought.

Apparently, they have Mateta back but they say that Mateta will wear a Petr Cech water polo helmet which will protect his head, i personally don't think he will be wound up and firing on all cylinders, just my opinion. We should have no fear of Mateta with our big boys Bassey and Andersen in there. Who should get the nod, Jimenez or Muniz upfront? We know that Jimenez had a decent game for Mexico in the Nations league and there are good reasons to start with him but i think Muniz could be a better fit to bully the Palace defenders and keep them well occupied and i fancy him to score a couple. Lukic will be back in after his ban and boy' do we need him in along with Berge. Yes' i have a few concerns from Palace and we didn't quite get a grip of their tricky players like Eze etc. Andersen had a n interesting time grappling with Eze when he displayed his impatient when Eze tried to bamboozle him and Andersen tapped his watch hand which was quite funny. The thing with Eze and all those tricky customers is homework and i say 'do your homework' on these guys. I feel that Marco will have worked out how these guys operate and turn or spin around in the box this time out and it will be a different story this time around. A game of football is played with tempo and intensity and it is very rare a team brings the same intensity and tempo. It will be interesting to see Marc Guehi play at the high level after the England game etc. 2-0 was a good win and we got beat soundly but i feel that with home advantage and a better knowledge of their game-play we should do better. 'Er' did i say home advantage?

Our game against Palace is a conundrum which,I for one cannot provide an answer. Our recent home defeat was probably the worst we have played all season when most of our players were inept, slow and appeared uninterested apart from two or three players. Yet when we met them earlier, winning 2-0 at Palace we dominated the game. In my opinion we have to be positive from the start with all players contributing their maximum effort. We need to use the wings and to ensure crosses are accurate to give Muniz and Raul opportunities to capitalise to score vital goals. Personally, I would start with Muniz as Raul may be tired after the International break. Muniz has so much latent talent that he could become awesome within two years time. Palace have become a team hard to beat and our defence cannot afford to fiddle around in their own penalty area or they will be punished. Fast attacking football is required as opposed to the slow build ups that have been prevalent in recent games. Let us see the long ball occasionally to encourage the wingmen to use their speed and the midfield, with Lukic back, to add extra support. A slow start will provide Palace with the incentive to attack us with the speed down the left flank providing ammunition for the front two. Whatever happens, let us give a good account of ourselves as the team owe the loyal fans a performance which will ensure we progress further in that venerable trophy, the FA Cup.

No super-sub in Harry Wilson this time who went through a midas touch period when he could not stop scoring coming off the bench, Wilson is still out long term. We forget about Reiss Nelson who is still out long term and i keep saying this, we must find a way to get Smith Rowe engaged in the game. Interestingly enough, when we beat them 2-0, Smith Rowe had one of his better games. It is all over to Marco Silva and tactics now, and all i will say is 'in Marco we trust!!! COME ON FULHAM!!!!!

Like most football games it is difficult to forecast. We keep thinking we are playing consistently then we fall back to mediocrity, which of these Fulham team will turn up. If we underestimate them we will probably loose as they are one of the top form teams. Play at our best and we will win.

I think some of you will wonder what the hell is glossophobia? well its simply a fear of public speaking in work environments such as meetings! WOW! no wonder we have 40% people disabled in this country. And no wonder why some of our young people don't develop and grow up. How long before we should classify shyness as a form of disability?!

WHY is this england team so insipid,? passes go astray , the ball goes back wards more time than forward, no one can shoot unless they are 5 yards away from goal,no one seems to interested, bellingham still a red card waiting to happen still rely on kane to start up front, no flair no humour cant even laugh at it. And to really annoy me sam matterface rambling or screaming mindless dribble though out the game almost as bad as peter drury .And Tuchel just going through motions of watching but not sure who is what .

We won 3 0 which is all that matters. England will qualify easily but must play many all it friendlies against top teams so at least they get so experience of the level of opposition the will meet in the World Cup.

Fans don’t give a damn about the internationals. I am sure the players rather be somewhere else except for the fact that they are in the England team. Ben white was stupid enough to admit the truth. You can tell the players don’t run anywhere the intensity of a premier league match. Last night, I suspect many fans like me were watching. The baller rather than the England game. Not sure which was more boring. Time to revamp the international format. Or just let the ladies represent and have the England shirts!

I regret that I have to agree with all the above posters. The thrill and excitement which we used to associate with England’s matches has long since died with a succession of managers who have established a fear of losing culture. Players are not expressing their capabilities as they are obsessed with the fear of making a mistake. Last night we once again saw players incapable of making incisive passes or driving forward and releasing shots from outside the penalty area. Where are Gasgoines, Peters, Hursts and the Lion of Vienna gone. Players who wore their England shirts with pride and not forgetting our own Johnny and Cohen. The present crop almost appeared bored to turn up for these with the exception of two or three players. Tuchel will have his work cut out trying to reinvigorating players who just do enough but avoid sweating blood for the cause. He needs to be ruthless and refrain from overly friendly with the players and more of a disciplinarian in the mode of the great Alf Ramsey or Brian Clough. It may well be too difficult a task as the players have acquired a mindset of those people who no longer want to return to their place of work after becoming accustomed to working from home.

Let it not be forgotten that all too often players return from international duty with an injury. With so much emphasis on winning at club level, what player, manager or indeed fan wants to hear that news. Players would rather forgo too much exertion, or even being selected at all, in favour of being fit for selection for their club.

I think there’s just too much irrelevant football. Crap opposition does not help. International football needs to be graded.
posted by Observer (Guest) - Wednesday 26th March 2025, 8:21 AM

‘Irrelevant’ to you maybe, but not irrelevant to the populations of Montenegro, the Faroe Islands, Moldova and so on. And also the international tournaments are obviously a showcase for overseas players to display their talents to club scouts. But in that way I agree that International should be graded. Fans of the Faroe Islands would have the opportunity to enjoy their teams more, just as Fulham fans did when we were in the promotion places of the Championship.

Isn’t it true that all football fans wish to see competitive games. It really cannot be any fun getting hammered year in and year out. At least adopt an FA Cup model, whereby the top teams join a competition only after the lesser Nations have played out the earlier rounds. Only the best of the lesser teams get to play in latter stages. Makes sense to me.
posted by Mortlake - Wednesday 26th March 2025, 12:58 PM

You’re right Bish insofar as second rate teams locking up shop and refusing to adopt any competitive approach, a draw being equivalent to to win in the World Cup, is the root cause of the problem. The fact that home Nations, seemingly, just don’t have it in them to form an effective team is a different problem. That said, England’s record, In recen years hasn’t been that bad. Fall at the final fence I know, but hey, invariably a semi final spot don’t seem too bad to me. Ploughing through the dross qualifiers is the problem.

With all the talk of managers getting sacked, can anyone please explain how Steve Clarke still has a job with Scotland? Clearly yesterday’s performance was the worst in an appalling list of Scotland performances in recent years. (Marco Silva could do a better job and STILL keep his job going well at Fulham.)

Who cares, I don't care. It is enough supporting the English footballers without worrying about Scots. Scottish full has gone backwards since English football started to import foreigners who were miles better than British ones with a few exceptions each generation.

Managers getting sacked, along with who is going to replace them, is a popular topic amongst football fans, and “You’re getting sacked in the morning” a popular chant. British football (both in England and Scotland) has plenty of overseas players, the quality of which are dependent on the wages being paid - and the English Premier League more money. (Not that any influx of FOREIGN players of any quality should impact favourably on the ENGLAND team.) But older fans will remember the great Scottish names like Denis Law, Kenny Dalgleish, and others who were once household names. Now the Scottish team is entirely forgettable. And perhaps so should the manager be.

According to the press, Mr Khan is in the throes of holding contract talks with Marco, as they are getting a bit nervous, with the Marco to Spurs stories doing the rounds. It is reported that Marco Silva was back in his native Portugal last Monday, praising the merits of the Premier League. Optimistically I have a feeling that he realises, that a move to Spurs at this stage, would not make sense, as he is quoted as saying, that there is still a lot to look forward to this season, and surely that can only mean here at Fulham. I can't read Marco's mind, but he is building something here, and to walk away now, even for a giant pay packet wouldn't be in his make up.
Replies
It is a slightly worrying phase of time because Marco has been here since July 2021 and that is a long time in a managers football career these days. I wouldn't blame him for peeking around the corner to see what opportunities are out there but you are correct in saying there is unfinished business at Fulham. With 9 games to go there is still a lot to play for considering Europe and we are still in the FA cup which holds more prestige than the milk cup which Newcastle are drooling over, you can't blame them after 50 odd years of winning nothing i suppose. The FA cup game against Palace is huge and Marco Silva will be up for it. Beyond this season is a lottery on whether we keep him or not because they will come looking trust me, and the likes of Robinson will be tempted also, its human nature and they all have agents who will tell them its a good thing and a great move going forward in their career especially Robinson at age 27. Just think about it logically. Robinson at 27, it might be his last big money move and they will highlight this. It is what it is and there is not a lot we can do about it but hope the nucleus of our squad stays together...

Would also say that if we sneak a Euro spot the budget will have to go up ten-fold next year because i expect Marco will demand it and there is the extra worry of the volume in games. Remember what happens to smaller clubs who compete in Europe and the league? Saying that, let's just go for broke and see what Santa can gift us...

Said it before and will say it again. I think that Marco is still smarting from his Everton exit. My firm belief(can't read his mind though)is that he feels he can take us to greater heights and not even a bagful of money will turn his head until he achieves that.
posted by Aussie Mal (Guest) - Sunday 23rd March 2025, 7:25 PM

Owen, you are probably, although not certainly right about Robinson moving on during the summer transfer window, and although that is a bit sad, if we have a choice of either losing Jedi or Marco, I know which one I would rather see staying at CC, and it wouldn't be Jedi, despite the fact that I would be really sorry to see him go. Players, whatever quality, can be replaced, but managers like Marco, are few and far between, and without him, we could see a complete change in our fortunes.

Funny you should say that. In my previous company a swathe of Polish and other Eastern European staff signed up for full time weekend courses(16 hours), I’ve been told they average living costs of around £12k a year as well as tuition fees of £8k a year with no intention of paying it back. Universities love it as they get get full full expenses for courses that cost them virtually nothing to run because nobody attends. Back to the days of the technical colleges and proper universities running actual courses would seem to be the answer. Universities are a disgrace. Whilst waiting for the start of England’s match against Albania, which I expect them to win 5-0, it occurred to me that Fulham are a strange team and I wonder why. On the odd occasion we look like world beaters which is quickly followed by awful performance against teams struggling against being relegated. I have watched Nottingham Forest a couple of times and have been very impressed by the way they play and have justified their current position in the Premier League and yet we have completed the double against them. I wonder why. I watched the nightlights of their game against Ipswich, who snatch a draw against us. Forest swarmed all over them from the first whistle and when they attacked they were lightning quick and got six men in the penalty area before Ipswich could get defenders back to mark them. When Ipswich made an occasional break Forrest normally always had two men challenging the man in possession. We very seldom attack from the start and when we do it scares the life out of the opposition. Unfortunately, this is far too rare, I wonder why? Is it because our manager fears losing or are players not fit enough to play 90 minutes plus, I wonder why. I often consider too many of our players are coasting and need to make a greater effort. As other posters have pointed out, we have thrown away more than twenty points this season, many from winning positions, I wonder why. I do not wish to appear critical, having seen my first game in November 1939, or so I was told, but certainly I remember attending many games during WW2 when teams would benefit from guest players who might be in the services and station in your region.

Boring, boring England. Just goes to show a new broom doesn't always sweep clean and nothing changes. The damage was done under Southgate and TT has work cut out to change the mindset of the same old players(Henderson ???) .

I apologised in advance, otherwise too many people would have shot me down. However, Albania are ranked 65th in the world whilst we are ranked fourth and we were playing at Wembley. Tuchel does not appear too happy at the performance of certain players and there will be changes for the Latvia game. The demise of Foden, who hardly touch the ball, has been significant and there must be question marks over his future. I thought that we reverted to Parker ball instead of fast incisive play which was needed against a poor side who just frustrated a slow English attack. The game against Latvia, ranked 140th in the world, will bring changes and hopefully a more fluent attacking formation.

tuchel has had one game-ONE GAME!.to make any judgements now is just not on. albania came and parked their bus. they had no other intention other than to play as much as possible in their own half, and to a certain extent, they succeeded.

It is difficult at any level of football to get players to give more than they think they need to give to win a match. Equally if a player has run from one end of the pitch and back again they may be tired no matter how fit they are as 95 minutes is a longtime to keep moving constantly.

England were absolute garbage last night, and the new broom is certainly not sweeping clean. there was a time early in the match, when we must have had over 50 passes between us, and we gained about 10 yards, and we spent more times passing backwards than forwards. Why is it, that we all have great hopes for England, but once they are playing on the field, it is the usual rubbish. I hope that Dan Burn enjoyed his England introduction, as it will probably be his first and last appearance, and as for Rashford and Foden, what on earth has happened to these once talented lads ? In my humble opinion, I have more chance of winning the lottery, than England have of even reaching a final, let alone winning it. Back to the drawing board.

LTS, I always enjoy your comments and although, on this occasion I consider you might be overly harsh. However, I for one agree with your sentiments but most posters were aggrieved when I mentioned similar comments in a more kindly manner. It was Parker ball at its worse with slow over elaborate build ups without gaining ant advantage. Of course you are correct regarding certain individual players and I expect four or five changes against Latvia who, in theory, we should thrash. I was impressed by Thomas Tuchel pre-match comments that Southgate was scared of losing and was not adventurous enough to win tournaments. He was also mildly critical of the team after the match so I expect he will inform the players that their international futures are on the line. Unless the mindset of our players cannot be changed then we will only progress so far and always end up losers. My son, an avid Fulham supporter, often travels abroad both with Fulham and England to watch away matches and about ten years ago he stared he did not expect to live long enough to see England win the World Cup. He is now 50 and his comments are very akin to yours. We need a broad spectrum of views on our board which sometimes I believe is lacking so, please post more often with your comments.

The last time England lost in a qualifiers was 2007 and brolly-man- Steve McClaren was the unfortunate fall-guy who got the bullet. These early stages are rarely enjoyable and we almost morn for prem games but i think there was a little something of interest coming from last nights game. I like to see great movement in games and i would like to say that if that peach of a pass from Bellingham to Myles Lewis Skelly was created at Fulham, i would have spoken about it for a week, the pass was exquisite superb. I think Scott Parker would like to finish a move like that after 20 boring passes and if you can pull it off no team and staff will complain. I also think the goal from kane was top draw and you have to be decent to play and score that many goals in the German league. This is the difference between a top striker and a average one. Most target-men would have pulled the trigger without thinking about it but Harry Kane has learnt that timing that brings out something extra. Lastly i think Tuchel needs more technically minded players than Dan Burns etc, i know he did well but he and others will get turned and bamboozled by the more technical and tricky players.

In any football game the aim is to win how you do it is unimportant as most fans do not care how you win as long as you do. England have become very efficient at that aim so do not complain as we scored two very good goals and the opposition lost so we won. Well done England keep on winning.

Well at £50,000 I can't see paying that. He is an excellent striker who did well in the Italian league and ought to find a club that can nurture him. Did anyone tell the Man U coach he needs the ball in space to score! Problem is he is probably on huge wages. I mean who agreed to £350,000 for Sir Marcus Rashford who was, of course brought up by a single Mum (I always thought they were all single, but the best marry though) - I wonder if Villa will keep the little brat.

It would be great to beat Palace and get to a Wembley semi-final. The teams left means we have a very good chance of winning the cup but Palace will be the most difficult opponent as they are playing like a top four team at present. I for one will be absolutely gobsmacked if Marco leaves us in the summer, especially to that graveyard for managers club, Spurs. Marco has gradually built a decent squad here, and he has pulled us up from our bootlaces, to make us very competitive, whoever we play, and hopefully he is only halfway to making us European competitors over the next couple of seasons. If the Khan's are also just as keen, they ought to increase his wages to match his ambitions, with where we can, under financial policies, strengthen, what is already a pretty strong squad uad.

Other than falling out with the Khans,i see no reason why Marco would leave.whether he gets us into europe or not (from sess dressing room video on instagram its evident the lads are going for it)any financial request Will be cheaper than a "go to start" situation. He is building a reputation internationally which Will put him in a very tempting position soon,so why risk and blow all his good work now by going to the other side of london.

I'm with you all on Marco. Who in their right mind would take on the poison chalice of Tottenham and Levy. Look at the quality of the managers who are in the Spurs cemetery. I bet that Forest fans are happy that they have Nuno at the helm after the impatient Spurs let him go. The signs are clear to see Marco. Can't see him leaving the cottage myself.so much yet to be achieved at Fulham.

Of course Marco Silva knows what it is to be sacked, when Everton lost confidence in him. The most important issue for managers is the outlook that the club’s owners have. That club wanted to sell their best players. With results and finances deteriorating, what manager can survive that? Spurs are actually a very successful club, if one just considers profitability. Records show that to date this season 919,404 spectators have attended the games at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, whereas merely 398,883 of us watched a better side at Fulham. Spurs sold Harry Kane. They made lots of money, but reduced the quality of their team significantly. There is little doubt that Spurs can pay Marco more than Fulham if they chose to (which they probably don’t), but producing winning teams and not having the carpet pulled from under him suits Marco better. (And he could probably go to the Middle East for even MORE money)

Then to see two of our fromer players in the Caraboa Cup Final, the one that got away Dan Burn, now at 33 years old still head and shoulders above everyone else on the field litterally. We do not get any credit. Even if we get a Championship League place it will be luck rather than skill. The report in the Times on the match is full of praise for Fulham. Even the Sun mentions us. Mind you MOTD were right, I noticed Spurs had out a virtual reserve team, but we scored our two goals when they brought on their first team squad substitutes. But of course you can only beat what is in front of you. Another point if Spurs were going to play seven reserve we might as well played the game on Saturday at !5.00 hrs, a rare kick off time these days. Mind you the advantage of Sunday kickoffs is a lot less traffic.

The format of picking out a player and showing what he does seems very old fashioned, why not talk about the good moves in a game, including any goals. Both our goals were good ones against a very tired looking defence. They stressed the stupid Spurs tactics of making wholesale changes in the team, but did not mention the clever way Fulham took advantage of this in attacking hard in the last twenty minutes when the Spurs defence visibly tired. We have a very clever tactical manager who will of told his players how to beat Tottenham.

I'm really angry about tonight's MOTD2, and all I heard on the summing up by the experts, like that useless manager Rooney, was that Spurs put out a weakened side. No mention, that we were also missing a few of our players, and as pointed out, no mention how well taken our goals were. If, and it's a big if, we won the FA Cup, it would be that we were so lucky, and our opponents had an off day. It would be great to have a Fulham v Brighton final, but it will probably be Man City against Forest.

MOTH lives in the past. I know we have not won anything but when did Spurs last win something, they have been ordinary for a very long time. History counts for a lot in football. Our next four League games are against top team but if we play at our best we will get a lot more points against them than most people expect. If only we had not dropped 11 point against Man U, Ipswich and Southampton we would be high in the table now, but people would still not take us seriously because our history, that started in 1879, is not scatted with League or cup wins like most of the teams in the top two divisions. If Marco stays with us anything is possible now and in the future.

I saw in the week some reference to Spurs in fact being the most successful club in the League. That is, in terms of profitability, not trophies won recently. But the big fee they made from the sale of Harry Kane doesn’t seem to have been invested as well as the reinvestment Fulham made from the sale of Mitro, because Fulham are playing better than Spurs, maintain a superior position in the Premier League, and are still in the later stages of the Cup. Though it must be acknowledged that Spurs had a lot of players out today, I do wonder if its a vital skill within any club to acquire, train and play a team that is less likely to become injured. When one considers the size of transfer budgets, bidding for players during the window whose fitness and playing style mean less injuries, and then using medical tests most effectively, are increasingly important issues. Marco Silva is good at selecting and maintaining squads of fit players.
Replies
We got £46m for Mitro which is what enabled us to spend in the summer more money on players than we have ever done before which is what has enabled us to become a top team on results. We are the eight best team in one of the top Leagues in the World.

Honestly' i have never seen a better goal than that one from Muniz it was sublime and brilliant! Okay' he doesn't score a hatful but the goals he has scored so far have been picture-book Roy of the Rovers stuff. The second Muniz came on he was a nightmare and defenders just find him a difficult costomer to handle. If Muniz had scored 15 by now he would have been more in demand and it may have been difficult to keep him. Muniz is quickly becoming a cult hero and his name is chanted all around the Cottage now. The look on Hugh Grants face lit up after our first goal for sure. Funnily enough i don't think that was a penalty against Bassey who did enough to put his shoulder across the ref was right no penalty. We need more from the middle with both Pereira and Smith Rowe in there for sure but it is not happening. Willian was his brilliant best and i thought his curler was in for sure. At age 36 he is still brilliant but we need more from the likes of Smith Rowe. Do let's here more from the 'Observer' who's name suggest he knows something about football?
Replies
All present and correct Owen. Agree with you regarding Muniz, he’s becoming very reliable. I personally have been impressed with some of his delicate layoffs. I’m not sure but I reckon his goals to minutes ratios must be some of the best in the league. The goals themselves can be things of elegance and highly skilled. On the question of ESR it really is disappointing that whilst he shows brief examples of his quality he remains very sporadic with his contributions. I hope very much that he will come good.

Observer, don't give up on ESR just yet, as he is a talented boy, and I'm sure that he will come good, but probably not until next season. Most of us, if not all of us would have booted Muniz out of our club by now, but Marco to his credit, must have had faith in him, and it is beginning to show dividends, as he is proving to be a really good striker. ESR, hopefully will justify Marco's faith in the long run so let's just wait and see.

We have a great partnership in Raul and Muniz. His partnership with Raul can probably last another season with Muniz getting more minutes. They compliment each other so well and as long as they are happy to share the shirt, not sure another striker is top of our priority for the summer. Muniz surprised many of us and he looks BIGGER, STRONGER, SMARTER and CALMER by the match. He BOSSED the Spurs defenders today! He's been patient and a fantastic dressing room character. I hope we renew his contract in the summer as it only has 2 years left.

Is muniz becoming our new mitro same sort of style such a likeable character seems to enjoy his football and ffc and the fans think we saw everything there today lovely touches from our samba boys suicidal defending two great goals last 15 minutes threatened to run riot spurs just. Fell apart could have scored five in that time ffc rampant from the minute muniz came on spurs could not contain him

Nice to see the support for Muniz here guy's after his iffy start for Fulham and i think he is aware more goals are needed from him. Every striker worth their salt wants to score 30 goals plus and not just our strikers, we need more and better assists for all our strikers. Big respect to Observer who is a long time supporter of Fulham and i think he might be the oldest on here. Observer' i hope we come through what is in front of us, starting with Crystal Palace and win the FA Cup which is more prestigious more than the Milk Cup, which Newcastle won today...

He gets in the right places you need to be to score goals. His goal today, watch his movement, he win a header outside the box then stealthily move into the box in a position to score. That was not luck that was great intelligence. Everyday he looks better and better.

Maybe Marco should have played Sessegnon from the get-go and i think Sess deserves a longer stint in this team now. We doubted his fitness coming back to Fulham but poor Sess has not put a foot wrong, infact he has been brilliant and apart from his brilliant goals tally which is decent considering the lack of pitch time he has been good for us. Tottenham don't owe Sess anything and i think he should have celebrated that goal with gusto and pride for the badge and Fulham. a tap on the badge and a very muted celebration is not what we want to see considering that we gave him his debut and a backdoor back into Fulham.
Replies
Sess owes Spurs nothing. We are grateful that Spurs borrowed him for a few seasons and they paid us to do so. Two goals for him and six points for Fulham, how sweet is that?

He did go and celebrated with the fans, good for him. We used to love him it is happening again. Both the goals he has scored since his return show he is a natural goal scorer and a talented player, which we all knew anyway.

looking at Spurs today we was miles better then them , playing in Europe in mid week really does show up in a teams performance it's seems harder now for a manager to raise the efforts from a team now even more so than we had our great run 15 years ago ,and looking at Liverpool at the moment they seem half asleep (to much football?)

At present, the game has all the hallmark of a 0-0 draw as neither team appear to have the ability to score. Despite having the majority of play we have not had a shot on goal apart the feeble attempt by Castange when he rolled the ball to the Spurs keeper. With all respect to Owen, I fail to see Smith Rowe as the jewel in the crown but more a lame duck marooned on an island. Unless Fulham improve considerably it will be typical for Spurs to snatch a winner. Muniz needs to come on very quickly.nm

Agreed Bigboy' Smith Rowe was a damp squib and he should have been taken off earlier than he was. Saying that i think Pereira wasn't much better and i would have hauled him off before Iwobi. Iwobi didn't have his best game but we are so reliant on wingers in this team it is astounding. We need more coming from the middle for sure but still a good win to finish off in style before the international break. Smith Rowe is clearly finding it tough out there and a serious lack of confidence is missing i think. Marco won't say that because of the price tag and he sanctioned the move. We will rest up and enjoy the break and go again. Marco will try again with Smith Rowe after the break, it is still too early to write him off. Rowe has some ability and the few goals he has scored are very good but he has to get in those areas where he can be effective. He is not the strongest on the ball and pace is not his strong front. Maybe a sitdown and a watch through past videos of himself might jog his memory...

How will Marco Silva set up against Spurs on Sunday dinner time is anybody's guess and we have plenty of very good options of players we can use depending on Marco's favoured tactics for this game. We have home advantage and knowing Marco he will want to take full advantage and press for a win and 3 points against a Spurs who had a good win in Europe but we have a few days rest ahead of them and we want to take that win at home. Ryan Sessegnon is a good shout and he will be chomping at the bit to prove to his old employers that he can play football and Marco could well set up with Sess to prove that. I sincerely hope he goes with Smith Rowe who didn't show up against a tricky Brighton and in between flashes of brilliance and bravery like he showed against Leicester for that stooping header of a goal. Smith Rowe was also more proactive and involved in that game especially in the second half for Iwobi and Fulham's second goal to wrap up a good away win. We need Rowe to be playing like this and i also harp back to that utd game when Smith Rowe came on for minutes second half. He didn't do much but he put in two nice curling killer shots on target and it was only the brilliance of Onana that kept out Smith Rowe. We want Smith Rowe to be more pro-active and i think with the combination of the game against Leicester which will take good movement and timing driving forward and taking chances with shots just outside areas will see the best from Smith Rowe. We know he is not the greatest of pace makers but a good eye and timing of clever movement can bring out the best of Smith Rowe. How do we get him to do all this? Only Smith Rowe can know this and he has proven it in spurts but not enough and we want more from him and i think his desire and wish is to bring more to the table. Our key asset is Smith Rowe and Marco's mission is to get him to play his best. Ryan Sess or Smith Rowe or both? How will Marco set up this one, we will soon know...

Fulham have been my team for a very longtime and consistency has always been our problem. A Plumber said to me I never bet on a Fulham result as one week they will beat Ipswich the next lose to Ipswich. On paper we should beat Spurs but the pressure is on us start winning to get into Europe, but perhaps that is a demotivator, fear of the future. Spurs like Man United look very ordinary but is the very ordinary team we struggle to beat. I think an attitude of easy to beat do not have to works so hard and that does not work. There are not bad teams in the Premier League only less good ones. Marco must know what is happening and must convince the players they are wrong.
posted by The Time Is Now - Sunday 16th March 2025, 9:17 AM

The problem with the game is a physiological one as the players believe Spurs will be easy to beat so they do not have to work as hard as they do against better teams. Marco must keep trying to convince them it will be as difficult to beat Spurs as it is Liverpool. Premier League team are all full of players that can win games that Fulham have to stop scoring and have players that can stop us scoring. We must play at our best or we will not win. It is very basic it but a lot of the players do not seem to get it.

There was not a home win in the Premier League in today's games, so can we buck the trend, and beat Spurs tomorrow. A win tomorrow will be so important, as with Bournemouth surprisingly losing to Brentford, we can jump two places in the table. Saying that it will be Fulhamish to lose this one, when on form, we should win the game.COYW

In December, 1999 I stood on the terraces watching us play Spurs in the League Cup when Kevin Keegan was our manager. We had bought Geoff Horsefield, known as “Horse”, after his prolific goal tally for Halifax. He was not your average centre forward, only 5’ 10”, but he was a sturdy bustling player and a hard as nails Yorkshire lad. The Fulham fans had really taken to him and despite taking serval hefty challenges he made Sol Campbell look like a cart horse. Barry Hayles, another Fulham favourite, opened the scoring after 10 minutes but Spurs equalised just before half-time. However, almost straight from the kick off, Wayne Collins restored our lead. Fulham dominated the game and with Horse playing wide, as Hayles was our centre forward, Fulham crafted an excellent team goal when the ball was finally passed to Horse who cut inside and beat their keeper with ease. However, the memorable thing about this game was it was being muted that Keegan was going to be the next England manager. All through the game the Fulham fans were shouting”Horse for England, Keegan for Fulham”. Whilst Keegan did become England’s manager Horse did not make the team. Horse help us gain promotion to the First Division and we then sold him for a record fee to Birmingham who he help reach the final of the League Cup and the following season help them gain promotion to the Premier. I am sure many of you will will remember the game and that wonderful guy Horse.

Having watched a few Champions league games this week, I am concerned the Premier league are losing ground to the top teams in Europe. The quality of strikers in the Premier league are now way behind that of the big clubs in Europe. In the PL, we only have 2 world class strikers - Haaland and Salah. but both have their issues. Salah is aging and Haaland is a one trick pony. Look at the forwards in PSG, Real Madrid and Barcelona. They are young, hungry, fast and ridiculously technical. Not only that, their defence (like PSG and RM) have improved massively on previous years. I am worried. With the money, PL will always be one of the best leagues in the world but for how long as we are not attracting or creating the world class strikers!
Replies
some of the players on display for Real, Bayern etc, are not playing week in week out in a tough league and as proved this season which has been great with some unfashionably clubs having a go ,the great Barcelona side never really had an out and out centre forward but they still get plenty of goals they are just better player's that don't seem so washed up due to an easier season
