ENGLAND football legend George Cohens World Cup shirt went under the hammer for a massive £38,000 today.
The top, worn by Cohen during the World Cup final in 1966, was part of a Sports Memorabilia auction at Christies in London.
The historic shirt sold for almost twice its estimated value of between £15,000 and £20,000.
The star for both Fulham and England swapped his shirt with West German winger Lothar Emmerich after the historic match.
Emmerichs family have owned the shirt with the famous three lions crest ever since.
The price tag didnt quite match the world record for a football shirt, set by Peles top from the 1970 World Cup final when it sold for £157,750 in 2002.
Cohen played in all six of Englands matches in the 1966 World Cup, won 37 caps for England, and was one of five members of the team to receive an MBE in 2000.
He also made 459 appearances for Fulham before retiring through injury aged 29.
His shirt was one of around 200 items up for auction at Christies
today, including cricket, boxing, tennis and golf memorabilia.
