Referee James Linington |
Referee James Linington can claim that every match in the EFL is an overseas appointment, requiring the short hop over from his home on the Isle of Wight.
He is a very experienced referee having refereed in the EFL for 10 seasons and last season he has joined the new elite group of full-time referees to officiate Sky Bet Championship matches, titled as Select Group 2.
Mr Linington last reffed Fulham on 11th March 2017 when we beat Newcastle 3-1 away at St James'. He booked six players, two were from Fulham, McDonald for a foul and Malone for time wasting.
The first time Mr Linington refed a Fulham game last season was the 2-2 home draw with Norwich in October 2016. He booked Aluko and Malone for fouls. Parker for disent and Johansen for "arguing" with a Norwich player. Malone gave away TWO penelties.
The last occassion Mr Linington reffed Norwich was in April 2017 when Norwich beat Reading 7-1 and he booked three players, one, J Murphy, from Norwich.
Last season he refed 35 games and dished out 146 yellows and 4 reds, so 4.2 yellows per game. Leaving him above the League average of 3.4 yellows per game but below average for red cards.
His busiest game so far this season was in Reading's 1-0 home win against Huddersfield when he booked seven players, five from Huddersfield and also sent off one of the Huddersfield player for a second yellow.
