At only 25 years of age, Michael Oliver became the youngest referee in Premier League history when he took charge of Birmingham City’s clash with Blackburn Rovers in August 2010, and he has remained a top-flight official ever since.

Oliver’s rapid rise up the Football League ladder culminated in him being added to the Select Group of referees for the 2010/11 season. Prior to his time in the Premier League, Oliver was a Football League referee for three years after learning his trade through four years at non-league level.

In 2012, his quick progress was rewarded as he was elevated to the FIFA list of referees, making him eligible to take charge of fixtures in the UEFA Champions League and Europa League, as well as international matches.

Mr Oliver last reffed Fulham in the 2-1 away win in the Premiership game at Aston Villa in April 2014. He yellow carded three Villa players and Sidwell and Holtby.

The last occasion Mr Linington reffed Southampton was in January 2017 when they won3 -0 at home to Leicester and he booked one playerfrom Leicester.

Last season he refed 44 games and dished out 138 yellows and 5 reds, so 3.1 yellows per game.

So far this season he has refed 22 games and issued 87 yellows, an above average of 4.0 cards per game and 5 reds.

His busiest game recently was Tottenham versus West Ham in September 2017 when he booked seven players four from West Ham, three from Tottenham and a red card, for a second yellow for Tottenham's Aurier in the 70th minute .
