By the time he came to Fulham Ron Greenwood's best days were behind him, but he remained an intelligent footballer and an ideal captain.
He had moved to Fulham from Chelsea, after losing his place, on a free transfer.
Former Fulham player and England and West Ham manager Ron Greenwood has died on Wednesday 09/02/06, at the age of 84 at his Suffolk home after a long illness.
Greenwood managed the national team between 1977 and 1982, retiring after the World Cup in Spain.
He was West Ham manager from 1961 to 1974 and continued as general manager at Upton Park until taking the England job when Don Revie resigned.
As a player, he had two spells at Chelsea and also played for Fulham (he played 42 times between 1954 and 1956), Bradford Park Avenue and Brentford.
