Boa-Morte arrived in English football in the summer of 1997 when he moved to Arsenal from Sporting Lisbon for a fee of £1.75million. He made his debut in a 3-1 win at Southampton in August of that year, and notched his first two goals in a 4-1 thrashing of Birmingham City in the Worthington Cup two months later.

The former Portuguese Under-21 international looked ready to settle at Arsenal when he got his chance in 1998 in an FA Cup tie at Preston, scoring once and setting up two others. But the arrival of Theirry Henry and Davor Suker pushed the pacy forward out of the picture.

Moved to Southampton for £500,000, but Boa-Morte never settled on the south coast and played just 17 games for the club in two years.

Joined Fulham on a season-long loan for the 2000/01 campaign, and his performances alongside Louis Saha propelled Fulham to the First Division championship. He netted 21 goals that term but was expected to return to Portugal, however Fulham opted to take the Lisbon-born player on a permanent basis in June 2001 for £1.7million.

Boa Morte has had problems in the top flight, due to his disciplinary problems more than anything. It was claimed he was being unfairly singled out by referees after being sent off against Ipswich and picking up another seven yellow cards over the course of the season.

He has become a firm fan favourite at Fulham who enjoy his defence terrorising runs. Since joining Fulham he has also become a full Portugal international.
