Player description
As well as being a prolific goal scorer, Frank Newton, led an interesting life. One of 19 children, he left home to join the army and served in India, winning representative honours at football, rugby and hockey as well as being a good light-heavyweight boxer. He later sailed around the world in a cargo boat, was a sergeant in the Calcutta Police and an engineer on the East India Railway before returning to England to join Ashton National FC. He scored prolifically for Stockport from 1928 with 93 goals in 101 gamesbefore moving to Fulham.
