Fulham Boss Marco Silva’s 150th game in charge of Fulham ended in a 3-1 defeat to Aston Villa in an incident-packed Cottage clash.
A breathless opening ten minutes saw Raúl Jiménez give the Whites the lead, but Morgan Rogers responded for the Villans before Andreas Pereira missed a penalty.
Ollie Watkins turned the game around in the second-half and, with Joachim Andersen sent off for the hosts, Issa Diop turned into his own net to make it three.
The home side came out of the traps quickly, and when Antonee Robinson linked up nicely with Alex Iwobi, his inviting cross was just missed by Andreas in the middle. Kenny Tete kept the attack alive, but his shot from the edge of the box was blocked.
We found the opener inside five minutes as red-hot Raúl raced onto a long ball forward from Bernd Leno, before out-muscling Pau Torres and firing home with a low first-time strike.
But Villa levelled with their first foray forward, as Rogers’ speculative shot from outside of the box deflected off Calvin Bassey and past a wrong-footed Leno.
Fulham were close to immediately retaking the lead, but Raúl couldn’t direct his header on target from Andreas’ dangerous corner delivery.
At the other end, Leno had to be alert when Watkins was put through, and our ‘keeper made himself big to block the shot.

Fulham were awarded a penalty following a VAR check when Matty Cash handled inside the area, but goalkeeper Emi Martinez got down to keep out Andreas’ spot-kick.
The game continued to be open for both sides, and Rogers and Watkins both spurned good opportunities, firing wide when the ball was pulled back to them from the left.
And there was one final opportunity of the half when Robinson’s looping cross from the left was headed back across goal by Adama, but Raúl couldn’t keep his header under the bar.
Leno was called into action again after the break, tipping away at full stretch when Andersen nipped in ahead of Watkins, and keeping out a Ramsey strike after the ball broke loose from a free-kick.
The visitors’ pressure paid off, with Watkins glancing a header into the back of the net to give his side the lead on the hour mark.
Things went from bad to worse shortly after, as Andersen brought down Watkins and was shown a straight red by referee Darren England.
His replacement, Diop, had no better luck, as Lucas Digne’s drilled cross cannoned off the substitute for Villa’s third.
As Unai Emery’s team became content to keep possession, there were relatively few chances in the closing stages.
Villa winger Jaden Philogene was shown a second yellow late on after a foul on substitute Reiss Nelson, but it made little difference on an unfortunate afternoon in SW6.
Fulham manager Marco Silva said:
"It was not at all a good performance from us.
"It's a bit weird the way we conceded goals and we were not able to punish them in some moments as well. After the penalty I think I felt the team a bit more nervous. We were not playing at our best level and after the penalty even more."
On Andersen red card: "Against West Ham at home Adama Traore was one-on-one with the goalkeeper and was pushed from behind. That afternoon it was not a foul. All the explanations were it was a soft touch, not enough for him to go down.
"I would like to ask what type of touch that this one is. It was even softer than that one and this afternoon was a penalty against us. We just would like to see the consistency week-in, week-out for us to understand."
Aston Villa manager Unai Emery said:
"I'm very proud of our mentality. We are trying to keep the same performances we had last year in the Premier League and be consistent, focusing on each match as strongly as possible, tactically, individually, in our mentality, and then enjoying as well and trying to compete in the Champions League.
"We needed today to play this match like we did, competing, and competing here against Fulham because they are in a very good moment, they have a very good coach, very good players, and always it's very difficult to beat them here.
"We did a fantastic job. And even if they scored one goal, even if they had a penalty, we were always in the same idea, playing with our game plan, focusing 100 per cent."
On Emi Martinez: "Emiliano Martínez is the best goalkeeper in the world and it means we need him in moments like today. I was sitting on the bench and I was dreaming he saved [the penalty] - and he did."
Fulham: Leno, Tete, Andersen, Bassey, Robinson, Pereira (Diop 68), Berge (Wilson 80), Traore (Nelson 68), Smith Rowe (Cairney 80), Iwobi, Jimenez
Unused substitutes: Reed, Rodrigo Muniz, Benda, King, Sessegnon
Goals:
Jimenez 05 (IT'S HIM AGAIN!
Awful defending from Villa!
Leno pumps a long ball down the middle of the pitch and Torres fails to deal with it as Jimenez gives chase.
The striker gets the better of the centre-back and fires the ball with his left foot in off the right post!
That's Jimenez's fourth goal in his last five Premier League games. )
Booked: Bassey (f,57), Smith Rowe (65), Diop (f,98),
Red Card: Anderson (f,65)
Aston Villa: Cash, D Carlos, Torres, Digne, Onana (Barkley 75), Tielemans, Bailey (Philogene 61), Rogers (McGinn 83), Ramsey (Buendia 83), Watkins (Duran 75)
Unused substitutes: Konsa, Gauci, Maatsen, Kamara
Goals:
Rogers 09 (HERE'S THE LEVELLER!
What a start!
Ramsey plays the ball into the midfielder, who drives towards the edge of the box.
He looks to slot one into the bottom right corner, but it takes a massive deflection off Bassey and ends up in the other side with Leno wrong-footed. )
Watkins 62 (They've been knocking on the door and they've finally knocked it down!
Watkins marks his 400th club appearance with a fine header at the near post from the corner - it's a miss-match between him and Smith Rowe, and with so much pace on the delivery from Tielemans, Watkins' effort is beyond Leno before he can get a hand to it.)
Diop og 70 (Oh dear. Oh dear. Oh dear.
Two years ago this week Aston Villa fans were chanting against their own manager Steven Gerrard - but this afternoon they're in dreamland.
Digne whips a low ball into the six yard box and Diop's first touch is the unfortunate deflection which trickles the ball over his own line past a helpless Leno.)
