Fulham captain Andy Melville is resigned to months of uncertainty over his future - because boss Jean Tigana is not expected to hold his own contract talks until next year.

Melville, who is 34 next month and out of contract in June, has been frequently dropped this season in favour of 22-year-old Zat Knight.

But the veteran centre-back knows he has no hope of discovering if he is being offered a new deal or will have to look for a new club due to the delay in Tigana's discussions with chairman Mohamed Al Fayed.

Asked about his contract situation and being left out of the first XI, he said: "The manager needs to sort his contract situation out first, and then we'll go from there.

"It's not been at all easy for me this season - but I can't do anything about it.

"The manager picks his side and you have to take it on the chin and get on with it.

"The gaffer's going for rotation at the moment, so we all have to go with his decision.

"As a professional, you want to play as many games as you can - and I'm no different to anyone else.

"I want to play every game - and I'd rather play proper matches than games on the training pitch."
