Chris Baird reports for pre-season training on Tuesday unaware of speculation suggesting he could be on his way out at Fulham!

Latest reports link Croatia defender Josip Simunic with a move to Craven Cottage as Baird's replacement but the Northern Ireland star claimed: " It's news to me. I signed a four year contract and I've still three to go."

However Baird concedes he wouldn't want to start the new season where he left off the old £ out in the cold.

Baird signed for his former international boss Lawrie Sanchez and played 21 games in the Premiership before Sanchez was sacked.

Sadly the situation changed dramatically from the moment when Roy Hodgson took over.

Baird said: "Sometimes I was on the bench and sometimes I wasn't in the squad at all.

"It's what can happen under a new manager. They all have their own methods and ideas.

"But I'm not aware of any speculation about the manager wanting me out.

"I've just returned from holiday so if there has been talk I have not heard it.

"No doubt I'll hear soon enough what the manager's thoughts are.

"As far as I am concerned I'm still very much a Fulham player.

"I really need and want to be playing. I don't want to be on the fringes."

With Northern Ireland's World Cup qualifiers just around the corner it is imperative Baird is back playing.
