French international Marlet, 27, who joined Fulham for £11.5million,
is expected to be out until the New Year with a hairline fracture.
Fellow striker Luis Boa Morte is also set to miss the Newcastle clash this
weekend after being sent off against Ipswich Town last month.
And although Fulham have won their last two Premiership games, Hayles is
adamant a new striker could keep the Cottagers' excellent run going.
Hayles said: "I'm so disappointed for Steve. Losing him is a massive
blow to the club and to the team.
"It's going to be tough, especially with Luis out for the Newcastle
game. "I think the manager probably needs to get someone in right now
because with Steve out for so long there aren't as many options on the bench
for us. He definitely needs to get someone in."
Bazza continued "People are always saying to me that I must worry every
time Fulham sign a player because it might put me out of the team.
"But that's not the case. I'm confident in my ability and I like it
when new players arrive - everybody does.
