Fulham's Barry Hayles will be out of action for four to five weeks after rupturing ankle ligaments in Jamaica's weekend friendly against Australia.

He told Icons: ''I've had several X-rays and scans on my ankle this week and they've shown that I have a minor rupture in two of the ligaments in my right ankle.

''Unfortunately this will keep me out of action for between four to five weeks.

''To say I'm gutted would be an understatement because I was hoping for a good run in the Fulham first team.

''Having missed most of last season, I'm looking to re-establish myself as a regular and the season had started very brightly for me.

''Playing up-front alone in our new system seemed to suit me and I was in pretty good form too - so it's a shame.

''The swelling on my ankle is really bad, which is why it took so long to diagnose the problem. I was told by the doctors that the ruptures could have been much worse, so in a strange way I'm relieved to only be ruled out for a month.

''I don't think I'll lose a great deal of fitness inside a month, so I should be OK to make a quick return once the injury has healed.''
