BARRY HAYLES wants to pick up where he left off after rejoining Cheltenham Town
on loan yesterday.
The experienced Leicester City striker has signed for an initial month, but is set
to remain at Whaddon Road for the rest of the season after arriving shortly before
yesterday's 5pm loan deadline.
Hayles, 36, is expected to start tomorrow's FA Cup second round tie at Morecambe.
He ended his previous spell with the Robins by netting the dramatic winner in a
4-3 home win over Colchester on October 11.
Martin Allen's side have not won a league match since, losing six in a row before
Tuesday's 0-0 draw with Southend.
Ex-Fulham hitman Hayles, who was initially brought to Whaddon Road by previous manager
Keith Downing in August, also netted a brace to sink his former club Bristol Rovers
2-1 in Allen's first game as boss.
Since returning to Leicester, Hayles has made two substitute appearances in the
league and started one Johnstone's Paint Trophy tie.
The Foxes do not have a reserve team, so Hayles is desperate for competitive football
and hungry for goals.
"I want to come back and carry on where I left off earlier in the season," Hayles
said.
"I have not played much football and have spent a lot of time training without a
match at the end of it so I just want to be able to look forward to Saturday afternoons
again."
Hayles could have been starting tomorrow's match up front alongside his former Leicester
and Fulham team mate Elvis Hammond, but the Ghana international looks set to miss
out with a groin injury.
"I know all about Elvis and he is very quick and strong too," Hayles said.
"There is good competition up front at Cheltenham now and that has to bode well.
He added: "I feel good, fresh and as hungry as ever so I can't wait to get going.
"I have been following Cheltenham's results and they have not been far off games so I am sure we can turn it around."
Allen said: "Barry was terrific while he was here earlier in the season and he will
be a good acquisition for us.
"I am delighted to have him on board after making so many calls and lots of waiting
this week. He will give everyone at the club a boost.
