Portsmouth have confirmed that they will end the loan spell of Fulham midfielder Bjorn Helge Riise as it "just hasn't worked out".
The 28-year-old played twice for the Fratton Park club having agreed a one-month loan - but caretaker manager Guy Whittingham will not be seeking to extend his deal.
Whittingham said: "Bjorn will not be staying. It just hasn't worked out for him, unfortunately. I've been in that situation myself where you go on loan somewhere and it doesn't happen for you.
"But he's been a great professional and I still think he's enjoyed being here. We've enjoyed having him here. He understood the situation and he's been fine with it.
"It was the right decision to bring him in. He added to the squad and helped the competition for places."
The Norway international has previously been loaned to Sheffield United and may leave Craven Cottage permanently in January.
