The former Portugal international is reportedly considering a move to South Africa's top flight to join one of the big guns in the league

Former Fulham midfielder Luis Boa Morte arrives in the country next Monday for talks with a Premier Soccer League (PSL) club, having been convinced by close friend Benni McCarthy.

According to Kickoff, the identity of the interested club has been kept a secret, but the two Soweto giants Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs are believed to be at the forefront to sign the Portuguese.

Boa Morte, who was McCarthy's team-mate at West Ham, is a free agent after prematurely parting ways with Greek second tier side AE Larissa just six months into his stay, following financial problems at the club.

Paul Mitchell, the agent representing the 34-year-old in South Africa, said that the influence of McCarthy stands as the reason behind Boa Morte's decision to consider playing in the PSL.

"Luis is close friends with Benni and it is actually Benni who recommended that Luis must consider coming down to South Africa.

"After being convinced by Benni about the PSL Luis is now excited about coming down to the country. The thing about Benni is that he speaks Portuguese just like Luis and their friendship is from their time at West Ham," Mitchell said, according to Kickoff.com.

With over 300 games in the English Premiership from his 14 years in England, Boa Morte will arrive in South Africa armed with vital experience, despite being in the twilight of his career.

"He is 34 but he still has at least two good years left in him and if possible he could as well finish off his career in the country. One thing that is definite about him is that he is still quality," Mitchell added.

Boa Morte had game-time at Arsenal, Southampton, Fulham and West Ham, who he left at the end of last season, after four years. His most successful spell was at Fulham, where he played 195 games.
