Fulham midfielder
Luis Boa Mort |
Fulham midfielder Luis Boa Morte has been selected for the Portugal squad ahead of the World Cup qualifiers
with Slovakia and Estonia next month.
The match with Slovakia at Lisbons Estadio da Luz takes place on June 4 and the game with Estonia
in Tallinn four days later.
Luis Figo makes his much-heralded return to International football following the former FIFA World
Player of the Year agreeing to return to Luiz Felipe Scolaris side for the World Cup qualifiers
Figo has not represented his country since featuring in the side that lost the Euro 2004 final to Greece.
Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo and Chelsea duo Ricardo Carvalho and Tiago are also included.
The squad is also notable for a call-up for Vitoria Guimaraes winger Alex who gets the nod for the
first time.
Figo is a great player who still has a lot to offer the national side, Scolari told a press
conference. He will be welcomed with open arms by everyone.
Alex has had a good season this year and I have to congratulate his club coach Manuel Machado
for everything he has done with the player who he has used in a new position and has played superbly.
The match with Slovakia pits together the two leading teams in the group and the Portuguese Football
Federation website reports it will be handled by Italian referee Pierluigi Collina in what could be his
last major appearance.
