Fulham defender Brede Hangeland has voiced his fears over the prospect of Fulham gaining entry to the Europa League qualifiers.
Uefa confirmed on Monday that the Premier League had finished in the top three of their Fair Play rankings and as such would be rewarded with an extra place in Europe next season.
The spot will go to the top side from the Premier League's own Fair Play league, who have not already qualified for Europe, which at the moment is set to be Tottenham.
But if Spurs clinch fifth place they will qualify through their league position, leaving Fulham as the most likely side to be placed into the Europa League.
The Fair Play entrants begin in the first round of qualifiers at the end of June, cutting short their summer break.
Hangeland is concerned about the possibility of burn-out later in the campaign and admits he does not really want to be playing in continental competition if it ultimately has a negative effect.
The Norwegian centre-back also believes the authorities should review the whole football calendar to ensure players get more time off.
"It is bad if you get that Europa League spot because you have to start playing games too early," he said in the Daily Mirror.
"If it's to be regarded as a prize, then you need to get into the first round proper or the group stages.
"For Premiership teams, we play 11 and a half months a year. You can't ask teams to play in the middle of the summer, or at the time when the players should really be on the beach resting.
"The people running football need to look at the demands on the players sooner rather than later.
"It's all very good playing games week in, week out but, especially at the end of the season, you need to recover and we're stretching it a little bit too far."
