Brian McBride will turn his back on the United States following next year's World Cup.

The Fulham striker has decided he will quit international football after the tournament to concentrate his energies on his club career.

The USA have qualified for the competition in Germany and McBride is a key part of Bruce Arena's plans.

But the 33-year-old feels it will be a wise move to walk away from his national team after the World Cup.

"That'll be it for me after the World Cup," said McBride.

"It'll be time to stop travelling, to spend some time with my family and concentrate on club football."

McBride joined Fulham in January 2004 from Columbus Crew after previously undertaking loan spells in England with Everton and Preston North End.

He has scored 12 goals in 24 Premiership starts for The Cottagers, although he has also made 26 appearances off the bench for Chris Coleman's side.
