Fulham are closing in on the signing of winger Bryan Ruiz after agreeing a £10.6million fee with his club FC Twente, Goal.com can confirm.
The Costa Rica star left Holland on Tuesday night to fly to London, where he will finalise personal terms with Fulham officials and undergo a medical.
It is understood that Ruiz has agreed a package that will make him the highest paid player in Fulham's history. The club's current top earner, believed to be Bobby Zamora, earns £45,000-a-week.
The fee agreed is also third only to the £13m paid to Everton for Andy Johnson in 2008 and the £11.5m paid to Lyon for Steve Marlet seven years earlier.
Fulham's swoop for Ruiz is a huge boost for manager Martin Jol, who has become a big admirer of the 26-year-old following his performances in the Eredivisie over the last two seasons.
It has been widely speculated that Ruiz has been earmarked as a replacement for Clint Dempsey.
