Fulham utility man Chris Baird believes Fulham will take great heart from the way they salvaged a point against Everton on Saturday, even though they were well below their best.

It needed an injury-time goal from sub Steve Sidwell to cancel two goals from Marouane Fellaini which had looked certain to give the dominant visitors all three points.

"It's good character from the players," the midfielder said.

"It was a poor performance - not up to our standards and we're disappointed with how we played. But it shows if you keep going until the final whistle, we can get a result in the end and we'll take some positives from the game.

"I'm sure we'll talk about where it went wrong through the week to put things right and move on."

Baird added: "You have to give credit to Everton and their style of play. They didn't let us play our football and you have to hold your hands up sometimes and give credit to the opposition.

"It just wasn't our day, but we've got quality in the team and we get chances and thankfully one fell for Steve Sidwell, and he's finished it really well."
