Chris Coleman to stay at Real Sociedad |
|
Newly-appointed Real Sociedad president Inaki Badiola has announced that manager
Chris Coleman will stay at the club.
Reports in the Spanish press had linked Coleman with a move away from the Segunda
Liga outfit with the former Fulham boss publicly stating his unhappiness at having
new signings brought in without his input.
But Badiola confirmed today that following their third meeting in as many days,
Coleman had decided to stay at the helm.
"He has said that he is excited," said Badiola. "It was simply a case of not understanding
each other well.
"He thinks he should have more say in decisions about new signings but now we are
going to follow a new model."
Future signings will be decided by the board and others who will not include Coleman
and assistant Steve Kean.
Former Liverpool number two Pako Ayestaran, who has been employed by Badiola as
a sporting consultant, will be involved in the decision-making process.
Badiola added that Coleman could express his opinion on possible transfers but the
board would have the final say.
"If he convinces us, perfect," he added. "I reiterated to Coleman, though, that
our plans will take a direction that I hope excites him.
"How can we change our plans if we have the backing of 71.6% of our shareholders?"
