Newcastle United midfielder Lee Clark admits he would love to start against former club Fulham on Saturday.
St James' Park should be a hive of expectancy at the weekend as Michael Owen makes his debut but for Clark, the game has a special poignancy.
Despite being club captain Clark was informed in the summer that due to cost cutting measures at Craven Cottage, the club could not afford to keep him.
A move to Leeds looked to be on the cards but Clark elected to ink a short-term deal at Newcastle, where he is hoping to make his full debut at the weekend.
''In my first two seasons there (Fulham) I was Player of the Year, I then had injury problems, but for the last two seasons I was club captain - including when they finished in their highest league position of ninth in the top level,'' Clark said.
''If I am involved in any way, shape or form on Saturday and I get on the field, I want Newcastle to take all three points; put in a good performance.
''We need to get the first win of the season and get the season up and running.''
Owen continues in a long line of famous strikers for Newcastle and Clark predicts he will become a favoured son in the mould of Alan Shearer and Kevin Keegan before him.
''They've likened it to the signing of Keegan in 1982 and Shearer in 1996,'' he continued.
''Kevin scored on his full debut and Alan too, so hopefully the trend can continue.''
