Former Fulham manager Chris Coleman has revealed that his offer to resign as coach
of Real Sociedad has been turned down.
Sociedad president Maria de la Pena, who brought Coleman to the club in the summer,
resigned earlier this week, prompting the Welshman's decision to quit.
However, the remaining Sociedad board members urged Coleman to stay on, at least
until board elections are held on January 3.
Coleman said: "I spoke with the directors at the Anoeta. After the information I
received that Maria would finish, I said 'okay, for me, I finish' because my loyalty
is with Maria.
"The directors said 'No, stay. We want you to stay, continue to work, it is very
important'. The most important thing is the club, not the directors, not me, it's
the club.
"So at this moment it's more important that we maintain some stability. The third of January, I don't know. Maybe everything changes, I don't know, nobody knows.
"Until then, there are six very important games. We will work hard for that - after
that I don't know.
"I thought that if Maria was leaving I thought the directors were leaving as well,
but that is not the case at the moment.
