Fulham boss Chris Coleman has told Claus Jensen he must reproduce his match-winning heroics against former club Charlton on a regular basis if he wants a new contract.

Jensen came off the bench to orchestrate a 2-1 triumph over their London rivals - a result that lifts the Cottagers to 10th in the Barclays Premiership.

The Denmark midfielder's floating free-kick set up the first for Brian McBride and he notched the second himself, concluding an elusive run with a neat finish.

Charlton, who prop up the Premiership, pulled one back through Darren Bent but Fulham had already done enough to claim all three points.

It had been a different story until Jensen's arrival, however, with the home side forced to defend for long spells as Charlton wasted a handful of chances.

Jensen's contract runs out at the end of the season and Coleman warned the injury-prone playmaker - who was making his first Premiership appearance of the season - he must prove his fitness and form before a new deal will be offered.

Coleman said: "It was a great start for Claus but that's what it was - a start.

"Whatever formation we play against Aston Villa or Wigan in the games coming up, it's about building on that for Claus personally.

"I know about his quality and he showed against Charlton how good he can be on the ball. He was terrific. He just has to keep himself fit and show consistency. If he does that the contract is a no-brainer.

"We've had him for two years but he's probably played less than 20 games. That's a shame because we had high hopes for Claus.

"Unfortunately he's had a lot of injuries which have kept him back. He's nearly there and will get more games. It's up him to continue showing what he can do."

Under-fire Charlton boss Iain Dowie vowed to continue believing in himself after the defeat placed his position under fresh scrutiny.

The Addicks have made a dismal start to the season with the reverse at Craven Cottage condemning them to their seventh defeat in eight Premiership games.

Dowie said: "If there any brickbats to be thrown they should be thrown at me. I understand they'll come because that's the position we're in.

"The magnitude of the pressure that hangs over the job increases every time you don't get a result.

"I'll always keep believing. I'm the Miracle on 34th Street. I keep believing in people. There's enough in the dressing room and I believe I'm doing the right thing."
