Middlesbrough will not be reviving their interest in Fulham midfielder Sean Davis after Everton withdrew from the race for his signature.

The 23-year-old's proposed £5million switch to Goodison Park collapsed after a scan on his injured knee revealed a cruciate problem which would prevent him from passing a medical before the closure of the transfer window.

Boro too had seen their offer accepted by Fulham but after Davis, who submitted a transfer request earlier earlier this summer, indicated that he favoured Everton, they signed Spanish star Gaizka Mendieta.

Fulham made an official statement on the subject today;
Fulham Football Club can today confirm that the transfer of Sean Davis to Everton is now officially off after the midfielder was unable to complete a medical successfully. Davis, who handed in a transfer request three weeks ago, had been granted permission to speak to Everton after their third bid was accepted by Fulham.

Speaking at Fulham's Motspur Park Training Ground this morning, Fulham Manager Chris Coleman said;
"The deal is off and Sean's back here with us and he will be working hard to recover from his knee injury. The bottom line is that he's a Fulham player still. It's now down to Sean to start showing some form if and when he's selected, and if he does that we'll welcome his contribution."

The Fulham medical team are confident that Sean will be fully fit involved in full training in three to four weeks time.

It is widely known that Fulham have been trying to sign Sunderland midfielder Claudio Reyna as a replacement for Sean, and at this stage the Club is still pursuing its interest in the American captain.
