Fulham midfielder Clint Dempsey believes David Stockdale can become a legendary keeper at Craven Cottage in the mould of Edwin Van der Sar and Mark Schwarzer.
The Fulham keeper, recalled from a loan spell at Ipswich Town following a back injury to Schwarzer, was outstanding in Saturday's FA Cup win against Charlton and although Dempsey hogged the headlines because of his hat-trick in the 4-0 win, the USA striker was keen to share the limelight.
"He could be a really big star for the club," Dempsey said. "He has a lot of quality and he's made a big difference for us in some of our recent matches.
"It's always difficult when you lose a keeper like Mark Schwarzer. Who's going to step up and fill that void? But he [Stockdale] has done a great job and we got some good results over the Christmas period.
"We're lucky to have a player of his quality that can come in and play. He made some big saves against Charlton and also in the other games that he's played in too.
"It's not the first time he's done it. He did it last year and got a call-up for England, when he was unlucky to pick up an ankle injury and wasn't able to go in completely fit."
