Preston Manager Craig Brown has finally landed USA World Cup winger Eddie Lewis after a protracted transfer from Fulham went through on Thursday afternoon, subject to a medical.
Lewis, who turned 28 iduring the World Cup was one of the American hero's as they got to the quarter-finals of the competition in Japan and Korea.
He has agreed a three-year deal with North End and move's from 'Loftus Road' for an undisclosed fee.
The speedy left-midfielder was Paul Bracewell's last signing with the Cottagers, acquired from MLS side the San José Earthquakes in February 2000, for a fee of £1million. The Fulham describe him as the 'American Beckham'!
Preston Chief Executive Tony Scholes said of the deal: "Our interest in Eddie has been well publicised and he is someone we have been keeping an eye on throughout the summer and are delighted to wrap up the deal."
Preston Chairman Derek Shaw commented: "I am very pleased about the signing, because Eddie is a player that Craig Brown recognised as someone he wanted to bring here when he first arrived at the club.
"It has taken quite a while to complete, which may lead to some criticism from the supporters, but we feel that we have got the deal that we wanted and obviously Eddie has got the deal he wanted, otherwise it wouldn't have been completed successfully.
"I would like to welcome Eddie to the club. He has a great pedigree and as everybody knows, he represented the USA in the summer's World Cup and he should prove to be a great asset to the club."
