Former Fulham defender and US captain Carlos Bocanegra has been transferred to St. Etienne from Rennes in a deal estimated to be worth ?500,000, according to an official statement from the Breton club on Friday morning.
Saint-Etienne had previously courted Bocanegra over the winter transfer period but a deal never materialized.
Rumors of today's move had been circulating in the French press for the past week.
The 31-year old defender will report to Saint-Etienne when he returns from his summer break. The length of the deal has not been released.
Bocanegra joined Rennes in June of 2008 and made 54 appearances for Les Rouges et Noirs in Ligue 1 over the course of two seasons.
He struggled for consistent playing time last year due to recurring hamstring and abdominal injuries.
