Fulham are close to agreeing a new deal with Bobby Zamora that will keep the striker at Craven Cottage for the next four years.

The 29-year-old emerged as Fulham's key man in their run to the Europa League final that ended in disappointment with a 2-1 defeat to Atletico Madrid in Hamburg last Wednesday.

Zamora played - but had to defy an Achilles tendon injury that has bothered him for the last two months.

He postponed surgery to cure the problem so he could contribute to Fulham's bid for Euro glory - and that cost him a place in Fabio Capello's World Cup squad of 30.

Zamora will now have his operation in the close season.

Fulham, despite interest from Aston Villa, are keen to keep him and talks about a new deal are progressing well. He has one year left on his current deal and the club want to extend it by a further three years.

That will be a boost to manager Roy Hodgson, who is looking to build on this season's success.
