Fulham are greedy: Steve Hayward

Fulham midfielder Steve Hayward has accused the club of being greedy after they refused to let him leave for nothing at the end of the season.

Hayward, 29, will be out of contract next May and is desperate for a move away from Craven Cottage after failing to establish a regular first-team place under French manager Jean Tigana.

The experienced midfielder has made more than 100 appearances for the club and claims he is not being treated fairly. Fulham are believed to have slapped a £300,000 price tag on his head, which has scared off the interest of Birmingham and Barnsley.

Hayward said: 'I'm disappointed that after giving my best for three seasons the club would want that amount of money for me. My contract is up at the end of the season, so no one is going to come and pay a fee now.

'It seems greedy, especially as Jean Tigana had indicated I could go for free.'

Hayward is now so far out of the first-team picture that he is training with the Fulham Under-19s.
