Fulham link Carlos Salcido |
Fulham manager Mark Hughes has confirmed he is hoping to conclude a deal to sign PSV Eindhoven defender Carlos Salcido.
Salcido impressed at the World Cup finals for Mexico and, in addition to playing at left-back, can fill a variety of positions.
Speaking after securing a first win as Fulham manager courtesy of a 6-0 Carling Cup thrashing of Port Vale, Hughes revealed his interest in Salcido.
Hughes aims to push through a deal for the 30-year-old and is not ruling out further arrivals at Craven Cottage before Tuesday's transfer deadline.
"We're looking to obviously add to the quality we undoubtedly have," Hughes said.
"If we can conclude deals right up to the window then that's what we'll look to do.
"We've enquired, obviously, about Salcido and hopefully we will get that one over the line.
"He is a player that I think will help us in terms of his flexibility and his ability to play a number of positions.
"That's important for us and hopefully we can conclude that one."
Hughes added: "We are looking to have quality in all positions. Left-back is a position we are a little light in.
"It is not a foregone conclusion that Paul Konchesky goes because we are looking to bring someone else in."
PSV told BBC Sport that the 30-year-old Salcido, who has also been linked with Liverpool, has still to agree personal terms in a move reportedly worth £1.6m.
PSV would not specify the length of the contract that Salcido had been offered by Fulham.
