The prolific Argentine has failed to shine this season for the Giallorossi,
despite the club's impressive domestic campaign, and, despite starting the
European clash against The Reds, was brought off for Vincenzo Montella for
the second period.
With Fulham strongly linked with the player in the past two weeks, 'Batigol's'
statement of malcontent following the game is sure to strengthen Jean
Tigana's resolve to bring the 33-year-old Argentina international to London.
"If I don't play, then I start to worry," said the former Fiorentina
ace.
"[Coach Fabio] Capello says he fields the players who are in the
best condition, but I cannot class myself as over-the-hill at the age
of 33 when there are strikers older than me who command a regular starting
place."
Rumours of a rift earlier this month between the player and the coach
were strongly denied by Batistuta's agent, who insisted stories that his
charge had stormed out of the Roman derby against Lazio after being dropped
were false.
"All these versions are false," said Settimio Aloisio on March
12.
"His relationship with Capello is excellent. I don't know who could
have started this confusion."
Fulham are keen to bring in players in the summer as they look to build
on a competent first season, since romping to promotion last campaign
Benefactor Mohamed Al Fayed has already hinted that he will release funds
to allow a squad to be built that can compete for a European place.
