Fulham winger Clint Dempsey is very happy to be playing again after his long lay-off due to a knee injury.

The USA international returned to the Fulham starting XI and played for 72 minutes in the Cottagers 3-0 defeat against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Despite the defeat Dempsey, who has enjoyed a fine season at Fulham, scoring six goals this season, is just pleased that he has recovered from his injury.

"You want to play in big games and it was great to be back. I'm still working on trying to be 100% fit and get the sharpness back. But it's good to be back playing," Dempsey told fulhamfc.com.

"They told me that I would be out for between five to eight weeks and it took seven weeks. Sometimes that's the way it goes, I've been in England for three years and seven weeks is the longest I've been out so I feel fortunate."

The 27-year-old has scored 17 goals in 59 appearances for the United States and is expected to be major contributor in their World Cup campaign.
