Fulham striker Collins John

NEC Nijmegen have terminated Collins John’s loan spell following the Fulham striker’s failure to secure regular first team football.

John joined NEC in the summer and the Dutch club included an option to make the move permanent until the summer of 2011.

The 23-year-old has been a real disappointment in his homeland though, playing just 191 minutes and failing to score for the club.

NEC have now opted to send John back to Craven Cottage and the striker, who also spent loan spells at Leicester and Watford last season, admits his future is now up in the air.

“I am disappointed in this season where I have hardly played,” John told the club’s official website. “Unfortunately, I had but a few important moments for NEC.

“Where my career will next lead me to is not yet clear. In the coming weeks I will look at the potential opportunities.”

John joined Fulham from FC Twente in January 2004 and has scored 20 goals in 95 league games for The Cottagers.

NEC had high hopes for the striker when bringing him back to the Eredivisie in August but, after banishing him to the reserves, decided to end his time at the club altogether.

“Neither Collins nor the club have succeeded in making him an important player for the whole season,” said technical director Carlos Aalbers.

“Collins has not played and there are no prospects for him until the end of the season, so it was better to be adults and sit down together to find a good solution for both parties.”
