Rennes have signed former Arsenal and Fulham midfielder Junichi Inamoto, signing the experienced Japan international on a two-year deal and reuniting him with former Gamba Osaka boss Frédéric Antonetti.
Inamoto moved from Gamba Osaka in Japan to Arsenal in England in 2001 before spells with Fulham, Cardiff City and West Bromwich Albion. The 29-year-old then played Champions League football with Galatasaray in 2006/07 before spending the last two seasons in Germany with Eintracht Frankfort.
Out of contract, Inamoto signed for Rennes as a free agent.
"I spent two seasons under Frédéric Antonetti at Gamba Osaka and that was great and he remains very popular in Japan," said Inamoto, capped 71 times by his country. "He's a great coach and I really wanted to play for him again.
"There are a few Japanese players in French football, such as Daisuke Matsui at Saint-Etienne, and I spoke to them and watched a few DVDs. It's a very good championship."
Inamoto also joins us with another former teammate in American Carlos Bocanegra, alongside whom he played the 2003-04 campaign at Fulham.
