Fulham's Japanese midfielder Junichi Inamoto will be out for up to a month with ankle ligament damage.
The 23-year-old was injured in a tackle by Birmingham's Olivier Tebily on Sunday, just two minutes after coming on as a substitute in the 1-0 defeat at Loftus Road.
Inamoto tried to run the injury off and limped around the pitch for a few minutes before hobbling off.
He was initially thought to have just twisted his right ankle - but boss Jean Tigana has now been told he has ligament damage and will be sidelined until mid-January.
The news represents a significant blow to Inamoto, who has managed just six league starts this season.
Inamoto endured a year of frustration at Arsenal last season.
But his sparkling World Cup performances for Japan alerted Tigana, who snapped him up on a 12-month loan deal from Gamba Osa
