Tonight saw the end of the Division One playoff semi-finals with Bolton winning
3-0 at home to West Brom and therefore 5-2 on aggregate while Preston won 4-2
on penalties after drawing with Birmingham on aggregate after extra time.
Bolton made it look easy with their three goals but Birmingham had problems
at each step. They went to Deepdale with a one goal advantage and went ahead
again when Preston equalised. Unfortunately for Birmingham Preston equalised
the aggregated score again in injury time and as neither team could score in
extra time the match went to a penalty shoot out.
Trever Francis was livid when the Ref went back on a pre-match agreement that
the if there was a penalty shoot-out it would take place at the end being developed
and therefore without opposition fans. However Trevor was not able to get his
own way, unlike when he got the Birmingham game against Fulham cancelled, and
the penalties were taken with Preston fans going like lunatics every time a
Birmingham player stepped up to miss a penalty
