JOHN ARNE RIISE has agreed personal terms
with Fulham, but Liverpool have also joined the chase, and could be set
to spoil the deal.
Riise spent Friday in Jean Tigana's apartment in Marseille, and the Monaco
midfielder was offered a five-year deal by his former coach.
"I have been offered a deal which I am very pleased with. It is a
of course a pay rise, but there are also other things that I like about
it," said the 20-year-old.
It is understood that Fulham have told him not to reveal details about
the deal, so Riise's mouth remained sealed over the offer.
Fulham and Monaco will now negotiate a transfer fee expected to be in
the region of £4-5m. Riise will then undergo a medical in London
next Monday before the deal is done.
Liverpool are looking to hi-jack the deal, however, and have asked Monaco
for permission to speak to Riise. If enough cash is put on the table,
the transfer to Fulham could be in jeopardy, but it is believed that it
will take a lot for Riise to choose Liverpool over Fulham.
Tigana was the man who brought Riise from Aalesund to Monaco, and he had
confidence in the youngster. After Tigana left, Riise has spent much of
his time confined to the bench.
"It means a lot to me that Tigana is the manager," he continued.
He also finds it inspiring to come to a small club with great potential.
"I think it would be good for me to go to a small club with such
a huge potential, and help make it a great club."
Tigana told Riise that he plans to bring in a lot of young players this
summer. These will slowly be helped along and will hopefully bloom in
two or three years.
