Fulham Winger Alexander Kacaniklic was pleased that Fulham were able to finish their season with three points against Swansea and hopes to cement his place in the first team next season.

The 21-year-old Sweden international grabbed Fulham's first goal at the Liberty Stadium, before goals from Dimitar Berbatov and Urby Emanuelson completed a 3-0 win.

The victory halted a miserable run of five consecutive defeats and helped the Cottagers to a 12th-placed Premier League finish.

Kacaniklic admits it was disappointing to miss out on the top 10 but he was happy to end the season on a high note.

"In the past two months we haven't been at our best and that put us in a position that we didn't want to be in," he said.

"It was the last game of the season at Swansea and it was a great team performance. It was very much needed and so it was an enjoyable win.

"It's great to end the season really well and it's meant we've climbed a couple of places in the league table too which is good because Fulham is a top-10 club in my eyes.

"People look at Fulham and they know we want to be in the top 10 so we're not too far away with where we ended up but we want to be higher.

"That said, though, I think we should be relatively pleased to finish as highly as we did considering our run in the previous seven matches.

"Like I said, in that period we didn't do well - only picking up four points from those games, which isn't good enough. But to finish with a game like that against Swansea was perfect."

Fulham found themselves under heavy pressure for much of the contest but Kacaniklic was delighted with their defensive resolve.

"Swansea came out for the second period and the game was played in our half for most of the time," he said.

"We defended really well - not only the back four but the midfield and the strikers too.

"I scored a good goal but I also had the shot that hit the post and the one that hit the crossbar so I'm happy with my goal but obviously I wanted a few more!"

Kacaniklic was sent on loan to Championship side Burnley earlier this season but he is now desperate to make his mark at Craven Cottage.

"I want to kick on next season at Fulham," he said. "I was never happy to go out on loan because I wanted to fight for my place at the club.

I think I've performed quite well when I've played this season and, hopefully, next term I can cement my place in the starting XI."
