CLARK has pleaded with Fulham to let him talk with Newcastle United, should
The Magpies decide to make a bid for the midfielder.
Clark has been an inspirational figure for The Cottagers, claiming the
Player of the Year award, in a season where they romped away with the
Division One title - but he has made no secret of his desire to return
home.
He did, however, state that he is sick of hearing about the link but finding
out that there is no substance to the story, and claimed that a time may
come when he has to accept that his boyhood club are not going to try
and sign him.
"I would hope that if Newcastle did come in for me, Fulham might be willing
to negotiate because they are aware my wife and family are living in the
North East," he said.
The 28-year-old midfielder revealed that he is talking with Fulham, saying:
"Negotiations have been ongoing about a new deal for a few weeks now,
but I am in no huge rush to sign it. "Anyone who knows me would not doubt
my love for my hometown club and my dream of playing at St James` Park
again.
"However, my family get sick of hearing about me being linked with a return
home only to find there is no substance to the story. "I do not know anything
about this latest supposed enquiry and them being quoted £5 million about
me. However, I think that is about the figure Fulham rate me."
Clark denied that his family would not move south, if he were to stay
with Fulham, saying: "However, it is a myth that they would not be willing
to move down here if I sign a new deal. I have bought a new house west
of London and if I decide to stay I think they will move down to be with
me.
"While I am really enjoying my time at Craven Cottage, Newcastle is the
only club I would contemplate leaving here for. But there has to be a
time when I know in my own mind whether they want me or not an I am not
constantly having mine and my family`s hopes lifted and then dashed."
