Fulham midfielder Lee Clark has revealed he
could commit his future to the Cottagers before the Premiership new boys
kick off the season against Manchester United.
Speaking after the bore-draw with Czech champions Sparta Prague at Woking's
Kingfield ground, Clark revealed he could put pen to paper on a new deal
at Craven Cottage in the next four weeks.
He said: "Talks have been going on and lasting a time. They've been
going very well and hopefully in the near future - maybe before the start
of the season - we can get something sorted out."
Clark told of his frustration at persistent speculation that his future
could lie away from Fulham, adding: "When I first came here I signed
a four-year contract and I am entering my third year of that contract. "I
cannot stop what's going in the papers when I'm on a ride at Disneyland
in Paris. It's not something I can do anything about. "If people want
to write that, so be it - but it never came from me or anyone connected
with me."
Clark insisted he remains fully focused on the job in hand, despite rumours
in the media and off-the-field contract negotiations.
He claims: "It's something I can just put on the backburner. I'm concentrating
in doing well for the football club in an important Premiership season.
"I'm focusing on the last few weeks of pre-season, getting good results,
before the big kick-off on August 19 (at Manchester United)."
