Fulham midfielder Lee Clark is desperate for the chance to run out at St James Park again - though it will not be in the black and white stripes of his beloved Newcastle United.

Geordie Clark, who remains a Magpies fanatic, is included in Fulham's squad for their trip to Tyneside on Saturday and is desperate to play a part in the game.

The 30-year-old midfielder joined Newcastle as a schoolboy and spent the formative years of his career at with his home-town club before leaving 1997.

And having appeared as a substitute in Fulham's 1-0 home defeat by Birmingham at the weekend, he is keeping his fingers crossed he will get a rare start.

"It goes without saying that I would love to play at St James' Park, and with Fulham losing on Sunday I feel as though I might have a chance," he said.

"I have never played at St James' Park since I left United in 1997 and it would be special for me to do so on Saturday.

"The United fans have always been fantastic to me," he said. "They were fantastic when I was a player at St James' Park and the reception I got from them at Craven Cottage last season was unbelievable.

"To tell the truth, the reception I got was better than I ever expected. Now I am just praying that I am playing in front of them on Saturday - and if I'm only on the bench it will be a bit of a downer."

Clark made 240 appearances for the Toon, scoring 27 goals in his eight years at the club. He has made nine appearances for Fulham this year.
