Lee Clark surprised by sick notes

last updated Tuesday 13th September 2005, 11:29 AM

Former Fulham Skipper Lee Clark says he is baffled by Newcastle's current injury problems and admits he has never experienced anything like it in all his time in football.

When Clark rejoined United from Fulham in the summer, he thought he would be working with the club's younger players and turning out for the reserves to help him progress up the coaching ladder.

But while the current injury problems have led to Clark featuring in three of the five Premiership games so far, the Geordie midfielder is nevertheless frustrated at the number of players on the sidelines.

He told nufc.co.uk: "The injury situation is ridiculous.

"On Saturday we didn't have Kieron Dyer or Emre available to us, and Lee Bowyer was on the bench after his injury.

"Steven Taylor doesn't come off for nothing so that must have been a bad one, then there was Albert Luque with a hamstring before that.

"It's just ridiculous, I have never known anything like it and apparently it was like this last season as well so I just don't know what the solution is to be honest with you.

"The manager and the medical team are scratching their heads trying to get it sorted.

"We will have a great side when everyone is fit, but at the moment it just seems as though we are getting one injury after another.

"Hopefully one or two of the lads will be back for Blackburn at the weekend, but we'll have to wait and see.

"All we can do is just keep going, not let the heads drop, and stick together to front out that all important first win."
