French midfielder Sylvain Legwinski says Fulham can finish in the premier league's top six this season, despite lying mid-table after three defeats in a row.

Legwinski told Tuesday's France Football magazine that Fulham's passing game was among the most entertaining in the English top flight and that the team had bags of potential.

Legwinski, who was also coached by Fulham's Jean Tigana in the 1990s at Monaco, said: "Without changing our style of play, we must at all costs avoid what happened last season -- when we went two months without winning.

"As our squad is fairly limited in numbers, there's always going to be the chance of a few setbacks.

"But given our potential, I am convinced we can finish in the top six in the table."

However, Legwinski also acknowledged that Fulham's game can sometimes run into trouble against more physical opponents in the hurly-burly of English football.

"Jean Tigana wants us to keep the ball on the ground and, in particular, to keep possession. That what I learned when I was starting out at Monaco.

"Against teams who play "hard", like Everton and West Bromwich Albion, we find it difficult to adapt and to respond physically," he said.

"In the matches when the knives are out, and the kick and rush approach tends to take over, the kind of football we play -- which requires a fair amount of thought -- is sometimes not decisive enough."
