Fulham have reportedly made an official enquiry
into the availability of Lyon youngster Steed Malbranque.
Malbranque, who was revealed as a Fulham target midway through
June, is keen to get first team football after spending much of last season
on the Lyon bench.
The 21-year-old has already established a fine reputation in his role as
an attacking midfielder, and is an obvious target for Fulham coach Jean
Tigana.
The Frenchman has taken his Fulham side into The Premiership and is keen
to continue building a squad which he hopes will have an impact on the top-flight.
The major stumbling block to any move will be Lyon, who are keen to hold
on to a player regarded as the next big thing in French football.
Malbranque would cost Fulham a fee of around £4.2 million, and, for
an as yet largely unproved player, the amount may well put off suitors

Malbranque is an exciting
prospect both for Lyon and France and is already earning in the region
of £30,000 per month despite his young age.
Became a regular during the 1998-99 season but only scored his first
goal for the club late in 1999 against Rennes. A France international
in youth categories, he has twice won the French championship at under-15
level (1994, 1995), the French Cup in the Olympique Lyon under-17
side and the amateur French championship with the reserves in 1998.
He was also a part of the France side that finished as runners-up
in the 1996 Under-16 European Championship.
