Rochdale are interested in bringing Fulham's American keeper Marcus Hahnemann back to Spotland but wrangles over the American's salary and the recovery of Neil Edwards from injury have delayed the move.

"Marcus came to us from Fulham and we paid a substantial amount of his wages in the time he was here," Rochdale's acting boss David Hamilton told the club's official website.

"We have to give the board praise for backing the then manager and the staff for allowing him to come. It was a big decision for them.

"We have asked Fulham if he could come back for another month and they agreed, but this time we would have to pay his wage in full."

The big 29-year-old American stopper played five games during his time at Spotland and only conceded two goals in that time, keeping four clean sheets.

With youngster Matthew Gilks being the only other fit keeper at the club, a deal for Hahnemann continues to be high on the agenda for Hamilton.

Hamilton, who has taken over the reins at Spotland since Steve Parkin left for Barnsley, will continue to try and push ahead with a deal to keep Hahnemann as they look to maintain their lofty position in the Third Division table
