Fulham manager Mark Hughes wants to hold further discussions with Zoltan Gera as he attempts to convince the midfielder that he has a future at Craven Cottage.

It was reported on Wednesday that Sampdoria have had a bid turned down for the 31-year-old, while Blackpool and West Ham are also thought to be interested.

Gera will be out of contract at the end of the season and has indicated that he wants to leave Fulham in search of regular first-team football.

But Hughes wants to activate an option in the attack-minded Hungarian's current deal which is based upon appearances.

"I've spoken to Zoltan and I don't want him to go. He's a great player. I like him as a player and I like him as a person," said Hughes.

"He's indicated he feels he needs to move. I don't agree with him, I want him to stay.

"I've spoken to him about the option we have about games played and said we would take that forward and exercise that option now anyway because we want him to stay. We need more discussion."
