Roy Keane last night dropped a bombshell on Manchester United by revealing he has decided to quit Old Trafford at the end of this season.
The United skipper's deal expires next summer and Keane insists he is ready to end his 12-year association with United and finish his career elsewhere.
He said: "I'd like to play on for a year or two but I don't think it will be at United. It will be good experience for me to go and play for another team, maybe in another country, in a different dressing room.
The midfielder said: "I think sometimes it's best to make a clean break. People have mentioned coaching at United but that doesn't really appeal to me.
The news will come as a bitter blow to United boss Alex Ferguson, who had been hoping Keane would stay on for one more season to give him more time to find a replacement.
But Keane, 34, insisted he had given his decision a great deal of thought and he is now likely to fulfil his stated ambition of finishing his playing career with Celtic.
