Ref Webb back for Wolves return

last updated Wednesday 18th February 2004, 9:45 AM
Howard Webb - Rotherham, South Yorkshire
Howard Webb begun his career in the Rotherham district and North East Counties Leagues and gained promotion to the National List in 1996.

He was a new addition to the Premiership List for the 2003/04 season after consistent performances in the Nationwide leagues.

Last season, he took charge of 12 first division games, many of which were high profile encounters. He dished out 45 yellow cards but kept the red card firmly in his pocket all season.

Mr Webb's first game in the Premiership was Fulham's home game against Wolves back in October and he has now officiated in 5 Premiership games, each one has ended 0-0! After the game he was rated unfit by 60% of voters.

Ref Webb has covered two games with Wolves, away at Fulham and away at Portsmouth, both times he has booked Lee Naylor. Mind you Naylor has been booked 6 times in 25 games

Referee Stats - 2003/2004
Ref Webb seems to be keeping his head down in his first season working in the Premiership as he whistles and issues yellows less than the average.

At the moment his consistency seems a little questionable.

Ref Webb does not exhibit any signs of being a Homer With a perfect 50-50 between home and away squads on fouls and yellows. The closest to him is Alan Wiley who goes 50-50 on cards but 48-52 on fouls.

Unlike Jeff Winter and Paul Durkin who still think that it is quite normal for 75% and 72% respectively of their yellow cards to go to the away team.
