Sunderland are ready to sell World Cup midfielder Claudio Reyna to Fulham — clearing the way for Sean Davis to quit Craven Cottage.
USA skipper Reyna, 30, insists he has no plans to leave the relegated Black Cats.
But a £2million bid from Fulham would be too good for the cash-strapped club to refuse.
A Sunderland official admitted: “We are in talks with Fulham about the possible transfer of Claudio but no fee has yet been agreed.”
Reyna has just returned from 10 months out after knee surgery. Boss Mick McCarthy intends to play him in tonight’s Carling Cup tie at Mansfield but will drop him if Fulham agree a price.
McCarthy said: “I’m not 100 per cent certain of the details but discussions are going on.
“I’ve told him he has every chance of playing at Mansfield unless something happens to change the situation.”
Reyna’s move would let unsettled Davis, 23, walk out on Fulham.
Middlesbrough are the favourites to land the former England Under-21 star for £5m, although Everton are also in the hunt.
